Former Assistant To U2 Bassist Found Guilty Of Embezzlement

A woman who formerly worked as the assistant to U2 bassist Adam Clayton has been found guilty of embezzling roughly $3.5 million from the rocker. Carol Hawkins was found guilty of 181 counts of embezzlement by a jury in Dublin earlier this month.

The jury made a unanimous decision and Judge Patrick McCartan addressed the court saying it was clear that Hawkins had broken the law:

"The evidence in this case was overwhelming. Nobody could seriously disagree with the verdict you have given."

Clayton had initially hired Hawkins and her husband as a cleaner/book keeper and driver, respectively. According to NME, they were paid a joint salary £38,725 annually, which she continued to accept even after they separated.

She also purchased 22 horses, a vehicle for her son and fashion and film courses for her children with Clayton's money.
