Paul McCartney Earned One Pound For Olympic Performance
Paul McCartney accepted a reduced fee to perform at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics-a whopping $1.57.
According to a report from RollingStone.com, the Beatles legend played the event for free, with the 1 pound fee serving only as a way to make his contract legally binding.
McCartney hit the stage at the event, produced by Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle, for a performance of his classic track "Hey Jude." Sir Paul is estimated to be one of the world's wealthiest musicians, with a fortune somewhere in the neighborhood of $1 billion.
His performance wasn't the only hat-tip to the Beatles at the event, however, as the Arctic Monkeys offered up a rendition of "Come Together."
Fellow British performers Dizzee Rascal, Mike Oldfield and Emeli Sande also took the stage at the event.
