MJ And The Beatles Candidates For VH1's Top Artist Pick

Michael Jackson and the Beatles are among those that could be named by VH1 as the top musical act of all time. Starting on September 6, the channel will begin a countdown of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, with a series of hour-long specials counting down from the 100 slot.

Though the top selection will not be revealed until next month, VH1 has already unveiled artists number 5 through 20. It has also revealed the candidates for the top spot: the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, and the Rolling Stones.

Musicians and musical experts including Ozzy Osbourne, Ray Davies of The Kinks and Sheryl Crow helped compile the list.

According to a statement from the music network, "The countdown will include special, rarely-seen performance footage along with brand new, totally original interviews with music's most famous faces."
