Paul McCartney and his new wife Nancy Shevell were nearly the victims of a helicopter crash when the pilot of the craft became disoriented in some nasty weather and nearly collided with trees.
The pair were on their way home to East Sussex, England earlier this year when weather conditions caused the 55-year-old pilot to lose track of his altitude, coming within two feet of several tree tops.
The pilot escaped the pinch and then landed the whirlybird and its passengers at a nearby airport. The Department of Transport has begun an investigation, and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has labeled the near-accident a "serious incident."
Harrods, the company that rented the nine-seat chopper, said they are "working in full co-operation" with government agents and McCartney himself has been in touch with investigators.
