Two Lane Blacktop, the 1971 road movie featuring James Taylor in a leading role, has been added to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.
The plot of the film, directed by Monte Hellman (The Shooting, The Greatest), centered on the characters of Taylor and Beach Boys drummer, Dennis Wilson, who played two vagabond street racers.
The film has been compared favorably with other road movies of the era such as Vanishing Point, Easy Rider and Electra Glide in Blue.
The National Film Registry added 24 other films this week including Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dirty Harry, A Christmas Story, Born Yesterday, The Times of Harvey Milk, Slacker, and The Matrix.
Every year the Registry adds 25 films that are at least ten years old and deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant.
