Elton John and Mumford and Sons will team up live at the Grammys for a tribute performance to late the Band drummer Levon Helm. The rock legend passed at the age of 71 last year and will be honored with a cover of the Band's classic track "The Weight."
News of the collaboration came via Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich, who told NPR:
"Can you think of a song that fits (more)? Philosophically it fits the moment."
He adds that Helm's sound has influenced a generation of rock, folk and country stars:
"Generationally it's very mixed, and genre-wise it's certainly mixed, and . . . that's what (Helm) was all about. He was about old and young, country and pop. He was this incredibly eclectic artist."
The Grammys will take place Sunday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
