Bruce Springsteen was honored as MusiCares' 2013 Person of the Year, a tribute for his achievements as well as philanthropic work.
"I am here tonight under totally false pretenses," he told the crowd of 3,000 packed into a ballroom at the Los Angeles Convention Center. "Any philanthropy I've done involves me playing the guitar . . . and I would have been playing the guitar anyway."
An entire host of A-listers were on hand to help the ceremony get a rocking, including Jackson Browne ("American Skin"), Emmylou Harris ("My Hometown"), Kenny Chesney ("One Step Up"), Mumford & Sons ("I'm On Fire"), John Legend ("Dancing in the Dark"), Tom Morello and Jim James ("The Ghost of Tom Joad"), Elton John ("Streets of Philadelphia"), Tim McGraw and Faith Hill ("Tougher Than the Rest"), Sting ("Lonesome Day") and Neil Young and Crazy Horse ("Born in the USA").
Finally, Springsteen himself took the stage, launching into "We Take Care of Our Own," "Death to My Hometown," "Thunder Road" and "Born to Run."
