The Doors' drummer, John Densmore, is hoping that his new memoir will help repair his damaged relationship with fellow surviving members of the band, keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Kreiger.
The relationship between the three became strained when Densmore and the family of Jim Morrison sued Manzarek and Kreiger for "improperly invok[ing] the Doors' name and images" when the duo toured as "The Doors of the 21st Century." Densmore and the Morrison clan were awarded $5 million in the settlement.
His upcoming memoir is titled The Doors: Unhinged and is due out April 17. Densmore told Billboard magazine that he is personally mailing a copy to his two former bandmates.
"My relationship with Ray and Robbie has been rather strained, of course," Densmore tells Billboard. "But at the end [of the book] I write about how I can't not love them for what we created together . . . so hopefully [the book] is a bit of an olive branch and we can head towards healing."
