Peter Criss has been announced as the American Cancer Society's Humanitarian of the Year Award winner. The former KISS drummer will be toasted with the honor at the society's annual Hope Lounge Gala on March 9.
The event will be held at a venue called Encore in Freehold, New Jersey. It brings together corporate sponsors, donors and supporter of the American Cancer Society to celebrate the year's biggest achievements.
Criss came to the fore as a cancer supporter after winning a battle against the disease. He has credited his successful recovery to early detection and spoke with CNN to encourage other men to get checked regularly:
"Don't sit around playing Mr. Tough Guy," he said. "Don't say 'It's going to go away.' It might not and you might not see life anymore and how beautiful that is."
