Charlie Watts, drummer for the Rolling Stones, has booked a couple dates without his regular band; instead, the famous sticksman will play with his lesser known group, The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie at London's Pizza Express Jazz Club on March 23 and 24.
The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie features Watts on drums, along with pianists Axel Zwingenberger and Ben Waters and upright bassist Dave Green.
Speaking with Radio.com last year, Watts said the group gives him a chance to play in more intimate venues:
"You're playing in a club and it's fun and it's not madness. It's not a giant stadium with the world's press looking at you on a bloody big stage. It's about playing."
"When you get in a club with the Rolling Stones," he continued, "it's really uncomfortable. It's not like playing in a club, it's like playing in an oven."
