Paul McCartney Speaks On His Greatest Bass Influence

Paul McCartney has revealed that Motown legend James Jamerson was his greatest influence as a developing bassist. The Beatles icon made the comment in a Q&A session as part of an ongoing series with fans on his official website.

One fan on the site asked: "Who was the biggest influence upon your bass playing?," to which Sir Paul responded: "The biggest influence on my bass playing was James Jamerson, who played on many of my favourite Motown releases."

Jamerson contributed to Motown recordings from the 50s to the 80s and played with Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations and the Four Tops.

The tribute from Macca comes at a busy time for the former Beatle, who is currently prepping for his upcoming Out There tour.
