A recently unearthed interview with Jim Morrison of the Doors contains some surprising comments regarding the famed fronter and how overweight he was while in college. Before he became one of the leading sex symbols of the 60s, Morrison apparently weighed 185 pounds. "I felt so great. I felt like a tank, like a large mammal - a big beast," Morrison explained. "When I moved through the corridors I'd just feel like I could knock anybody out of my way."
Morrison goes on to say that he prefered the heftier quality of his college days, which might explain why gained so much weight toward the end of his life.
"It's terrible to be thin and wispy because you could get knocked over by a strong wind or something. Fat is beautiful."
The 1969 interview was conducted by Howard Smith and is being released as part of the Smith Tapes collection of the Oscar-winning director, producer, and journalist's best interviews. The latest edition is in PBS's Blank on Blank series.
