A 45 rpm demonstration copy of the Beatles' first single "Love Me Do" recently sold for more than $10,000 on eBay. The rare disc was just one of 250 pressed in 1962 for airplay on the radio.
The disc features a goof, listing the song's principle songwriter as McArtney; the track was in fact written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The pressing predates the more familiar Parlophone imprints of "Love Me Do," released in both black and red.
The single didn't take off, reaching only number 17 on the U.K. charts, but it did allow the Fab Four to record their second single, "Please, Please Me," which hit big.
In 2011, another in the same series of "Love Me Do" singles sold for over $17,000.
