After years of owning the rights to their catalog, the Rolling Stones have signed a publishing deal with BMG. The distributor will now have control of most of the band's catalog from Sticky Fingers on.
That means that BMG will be in charge of licensing the band's post-1971 material for TV, advertising and digital streaming services.
The last time the Stones dealt with an outside publisher was 1971, when they gave rights to their catalog from that year up to 1983 to EMI. All of the band's material recorded before 1971 is owned by ABKCO.
"This deal is incredibly important for BMG," CEO Hartwig Mausch said in a statement. "Keith and Mick have clearly created one of the most outstanding song collections in rock & roll history."
