Foghat have released a new single, "The Word of Rock n' Roll," an updated version of the band's 2010 instrumental track "495 Boogie," with lyrics written by a fan named Phil Dessinger.
Dessinger was the winner of a contest sponsored by the group, which offered fans the chance to do Foghat's songwriting work for them.
Dessinger is no newbie to songwriting, however, as Ultimate Classic Rock notes that his previous credits include an off-Broadway musical and a campaign for the UNICEF-Special Olympics.
According to a release from the band, Dessinger is "the son of an original member of the CBS Orchestra through the golden years of live radio and TV [who] followed his dad to all of the shows and grew up at what is now called the Ed Sullivan Theater."
"The Word of Rock n' Roll" was released Tuesday and is now available for digital download at Amazon and iTunes.
