Rod Stewart is prepping the release of Rarities, a two-CD set consisting of cuts from his stint at Mercury Records from 1969 through 1974.
The comp features unreleased recordings and non-album singles, including covers of tracks by Jimi Hendrix, Elton John ("Country Comfort"), the Who, Cole Porter ("Every Time We Say Goodbye") and Bob Dylan ("Girl from the North Country").
In the LP's liner notes, Stewart's years with Mercury are hawked as his "creative peak":
"For many serious fans, Stewart's Mercury years represent his creative peak, and the music that he made during that period retains a special place in the hearts of his admirers."
The LP, due September 3, also features previously unreleased BBC Radio One live performances of "Maggie May" and "Country Comfort" with the Faces.
