Elton John is now recovering at home after an emergency appendix removal on Thursday.
The singer had been on a summer tour when he was forced to walk off stage at a recent concert. He then underwent an emergency appendectomy for an appendix abscess at Monaco's Princess Grace Hospital. He is now recovering at his home on Nice, France.
John, who had believed his pain to have been caused by food poisoning, said after the surgery: "I'm lucky to be alive. I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and so grateful to be alive."
He added: "I would like to thank the literally thousands of people who have sent me get well cards and messages over the past two weeks. Your well wishes have touched me deeply and will play a big part in my recovery."
John will be performing in London on September 2.
