Neil Young has revealed that his new digital music player, Pono, will be launching later this year. The Pono player, named after the Hawaiian word for "righteous," will feature a better quality of sound than currently available music players.
The players will play Pono files, which Young has pitched as an upgrade on the digital music file format.
Over three thousand albums will be available in the new format, which will feature HD audio whenever possible and a fuller, warmer sound--similar to that of vinyl.
Pono files also play on any other audio system, though not at the quality level at which they play on the Pono player.
Young first showcased the small yellow music player during an interview with David Letterman in 2012.
