Freddie Mercury Biopic 'Probably Won't Happen' Without Sacha Baron Cohen

Following the announcement of actor Sacha Baron Cohen that he was leaving the production of the Freddie Mercury biopic, screenwriter Peter Morgan has told the BBC that the film will "probably not . . . happen."

Cohen departed after clashing with Queen members Roger Taylor and Brian May over the tenor of the re-telling. Deadline writes that the former wanted a "gritty R-rated tell-all," while the band "wanted to make more of a PG movie."

No director has been attached to the picture yet. Deadline previously reported that Cohen had brought in David Fincher, Tom Hooper and others to develop the project, but none had been approved by May and Taylor.

Graham King, Tim Headington, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal are producing the movie alongside Queen Films.
