David Bowie Nominated For 2013 Mercury Prize

David Bowie has been named as a nominee for this year's Mercury Prize. Bowie's comeback album, The Next Day, was named to the shortlist of the 12 Albums of the Year chosen by an independent judging panel.

Also named to the prestigious list was Arctic Monkeys' AM, James Blake's Overgrown, Disclosure's Settle, Laura Marling's Once I Was An Eagle and Holy Fire by Foals.

Rudimental's Home, Immunity by Jon Hopkins, Jake Bugg's self-titled debut, Sing To The Moon by Laura Mvula, Savages' debut Silence Yourself and Villagers' Awayland were also named.

"This year's Barclaycard Mercury Prize shortlist celebrates a fascinating year for British and Irish music, marked by a wonderful range of musical voices - urgent, reflective, upbeat and tender, acoustic and electronic, and all with something intriguing to say," Chair of Judges, Simon Frith said.

The Mercury Prize Awards Show takes place October 30.
