U2's Bono has signed on to present the Global Citizen Movement Award at the upcoming Global Citizen Awards. The event is scheduled to take place on September 28 in New York City, while featuring Bono presenting the award to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia.
The event draws attention to global poverty initiatives with a particular focus on education, women's rights and children's issues:
"The focus of this year's festival is celebrating success and accelerating progress to a world without extreme poverty by 2030," organizers said in an official statement.
A special concert will also be part of the event, featuring performances by Kings of Leon, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and John Mayer.
