John Lennon's Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star Defaced

Some hoodlums defaced John Lennon's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame just days before what would have been his 73rd birthday. Ana Martinez, who helped produce the Lennon star ceremony in 1988, told the New York Daily News that she immediately made sure it was restored:

"This is history. It's a historic monument and should be respected, not desecrated like that," she said, adding that the star was restored to its original condition.

The graffiti included drawings and the words "I love you," and "Blackbird . . . Rain was here."

"Morons did it," observed tour guide Gillian Lomax. "Rather tacky. There was a group of them, judging from the different colored pens. I tried to rub it out, but to no avail."
