Aerosmith made a special stop during the band's ongoing tour in South America to meet with Uruguay President Jose "Pepe" Mujica earlier this week. Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford met the president at his offices in the country's capitol Montevideo.
"We believe in what he stands for," said Tyler of the meet and greet. "We believe that some of the best American Presidents were those that fought in war themselves. President [Mujica] is a freedom fighter; in many ways, we fight for freedom ourselves - with music - it transcends all languages. His behavior - the way he gives 70% of his salary to the people to build homes here, in a very small country, I think he's doing it the right way - grass roots - and we believe in that."
The band will continue its South American tour this weekend with a stop in Buenos Aires, Agentina. The month-long run continues through October 27 in Mexico City.
