John Lennon's Childhood Sold For $770,250 At Auction

The home where John Lennon lived until he was five years old sold at auction for $770,250 at an auction in Liverpool, England on Tuesday.

The home is located at 9 Newcastle Road in Wavertree, Liverpool (near Penny Lane, about which the Beatles wrote) and has three bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, one family bathroom, and a backyard. The listing states: "Many of the landmarks mentioned in the song ["Penny Lane"] are just a few minute's walk from his childhood home. Visitors still flock to visit these sites and other local landmarks world-famous for their John Lennon and Beatles connections."

An anonymous American buyer purchased the home. According to Stephen Giddins from the real estate agency Entwistle Green, the house's current owners were not sure how much they'd sell the property for. He explained to Sky News:

"It's very difficult to put a price on a house like this because you don't know what someone who is a huge Beatles fan will be prepared to pay to live in John Lennon's former home."
