Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler says that he wrote a song about guitarist Tony Iommi dying, following the latter's cancer diagnosis.
Speaking with Revolver magazine, Butler says he called the song "Hanging by a Thread."
"It was very much about dying, about giving your last breath and passing your spirit on," he said. "We never came up with the finished thing."
Butler added that the boys in the band feared the worst, following the death of Ronnie James Dio from cancer in 2010.
"We didn't know if [Tony] was going to recover from it, especially after seeing Ronnie go so fast," he said. "Ronnie went right in six months from being diagnosed to dying."
The reunited Sabbath hit number one on the UK Official Album Chart with the release of 13 earlier this year.
