Album Of New Johnny Cash Tracks Coming Out

A new album featuring never-before-heard music from Johnny Cash will soon be released.

The album, Out Among The Stars, is being released by the Cash estate as part of a celebration of his 80th birthday and the 10th anniversary of his death.

The material was recorded with Billy Sherrill in the early 1980s and the tapes were kept by Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, when Columbia Records dropped Cash in 1986.

The material was re-mastered by Cash's son, John Carter Cash, and co-producer Steve Berkowitz, and includes 12 tracks (among them a duet with Waylon Jennings and two duets with June). John Carter Cash said of the tapes:

"This is a beautiful record that nobody has ever heard. Johnny Cash is in the very prime of his voice for his lifetime. He's pitch perfect. It's seldom where there's more than one vocal take. They're a live take and they're perfect."

Out Among The Stars hits March 25.
