Carlos Santana has reunited with his former bandmate, Marcus Malone, a now homeless man who played in the original Santana lineup in the late 1960s.
According to KRON-TV in San Francisco, the reunion can be traced back to an unrelated report that recently aired on the station. Reporter Stanley Roberts met Malone while investigating, and during an interview Malone shared his story.
Malone claimed to have played percussion with the Santana Blues Band, a claim which turned out to be true.
At the time, Santana was attempting to locate Malone. And, after Santana's management contacted Roberts, the reporter tracked down Malone and brought the two musicians together for a brief curbside reunion.
"You don't know how afraid I am to let you see me," Malone said.
"It's an honor to be in your presence," Santana responded. "It's an honor to be in your presence, man. You and your family were always so gracious to us. Your mom is in my heart and your heart, and she's watching out for both of us."
