Kinks' Ray Davies Talks About How He Was Banned From A Welsh Town 50 Years Ago

Kinks singer Ray Davies has revealed he was banned from a Welsh town 50 years ago and has never dared to go back.

"I was banned from Neath," Davies revealed while promoting his new book Americana: The Kinks, the Riff, the Road: The Story at Hay Festival in Powys. "I did a gig there in the early Kinks days and there was an altercation in the dressing room. The promoter, who was wearing a bow tie, rushed out and shouted after me, 'You're finished in Neath, Davies!' and I've never been back."

Davies also admitted that he was shot in New Orleans a decade ago.

"It was a very humbling experience," he said, adding that he woke up in a hospital with the name tag "Unknown Purple" because no one knew who he was.
